About Last Wilderness, Botswana

About Last Wilderness

Last Wilderness was formed by friends Andrew Harkness and Andrew Keens in 2006 and was inspired by a desire to allow enthusiastic volunteers access to Africa's wildest region where they can aid conservation and community efforts. Our association and expertise of Botswana goes back over five years and spans all areas of the region.

At Last Wilderness, we are determined to offer volunteers life changing experiences in areas of outstanding natural beauty seldom seen by the average tourist. The company has vast experience with volunteer projects of different kinds. Its directors were volunteers themselves in their teens and consequently went on to co-ordinate independent projects in Ngamiland, Botswana.

It is from our own experiences and great times in 'the bush' that we are inspired to give others the chance to make a difference too.

Who are we?

Andrew Harkness - Andrew is a FGASA qualified field guide who has lived and worked in Botswana for over five years. He initially managed safari lodges in the legendary wilderness area of the Okavango Delta before running and guiding a volunteer program on the Okavango River. He is extensively travelled throughout Southern Africa, particularly in Botswana.

Andrew first arrived in Africa in 2001 on a volunteer project in South Africa and has been inspired to recruit others ever since. He is co-founder of Last Wilderness but still runs his own tours through the 'Last Wilderness Expeditions' where he helps new comers to the continent settle into an alien land and experience the very best Botswana has to offer!

Andrew Keens - Andrew graduated from Loughborough in 2005 with BSC (Hons) in Business and IT. Since graduating Andrew has spent three years working for one of the UK’s top Advertising agencies – the company is part of one of the words top four advertising holding groups. During his time there has worked across some of the agencies key clients.

Andrew has also spent time travelling to different parts of Southern Africa and wants to give other people the opportunity to experience Botswana’s natural beauty and wildlife. Andrew has already organised his next trip to Botswana – a two week trip travelling down the incredible Okavango Delta by boat, an opportunity not to be missed.
